International short film festival Stralsund
14 – 17 august 02

Still a very young film festival, g-niale film festival was founded and organized in Stralsund for the first time in August of 1999 as a community project of garage g e.V. and the Film Club Blendwerk e.V. Above all, our festival is geared to present and preserve the genre of the short film, a form of cinematic expression that you can scarcely find in the regular commercial program at the cinemas. The g-niale presents a film programme away from the mainstream. Accordingly, above and beyond the competition programme, we are seeking to present experimental films, silent films with musical accompaniment, and specifically thematic programs that would form the basis for, as well as help to launch, a repertory arthouse in this region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea.
The topic of 2002 is: ”playground“. Presented will be films, which examine the principles of play on a substantial or formal basis, films, which are influenced by games, experiment with playing techniques (tempo, rhythms, noise) or tell about playing.

Anime (pronounced AH-nee-may) is a term for a style of Japanese comic book and video cartoon animation in which the main characters have large doe-like eyes. Many Web sites are devoted to anime. Anime is the prevalent style in Japanese comic books or manga. In Japan, the comic book is a popular form of entertainment for adults as well as for younger audiences. Story lines are often very sophisticated and complex and extend into episodic series. Typical anime themes or genres include Ninja and other martial arts; the supernatural or horror story; the romance; and science fiction including robots and space ships. Foils for the main characters, including robots, monsters, or just plain bad people, often lack the doe-eyed quality.
